Yallum Park

About

Yallum Park is a historic homestead built by John Riddoch being completed in 1880. It is described as being the best preserved Victorian house in its original condition in Australia and contains the original wallpapers and other furnishings. The property dates back to the 1840″s when squattered on by Thomas and Joshua Austin. The property was then leased by the Wells brothers in 1851 then bought by John Riddoch in 1861. In 1890 there was 1100 acres subdivided into 10 and 20 acre blocks which was the Penola Fruit Growing Colony which then became Coonawarra. After his death in 1901 most of the property was sold with W A Clifford purchasing 2200 acres including the house in June 1914.
